about

Superbugger was born out of the Stumps during a period in which Stephen our bass player was unable to play. Somehow as a duo James and I were far more 'rock', possibly due to our reliance on loop pedals to build up short riffs and bass lines.
In a sense we did have an essential 3rd component to the band and that was the cheap little mp3 player that we recorded all our jams and live sets onto. I doubt it was much more than 8bit quality and we had this super loud racket pounding into that tiny little plastic mic. Whilst it certainly limited the tonal range here it was also a defining part of the sound of our records.
We recorded many many hours of horrible noise and editing these down into even listenable snippets became almost a full time job, or perhaps an obsession for me. I would rush home from work excited to dive into it.
Superbugger played for 2 and a half years or so and only really stopped when that mp3 player finally died and I was unable to buy another like it. Also Stephen was back and our jams turned into Stumps jams again and the recordings of those are much more hi-fi.
The recordings on this album are some of our very best. There are some pretty songs hidden in amongst the noisy swagger.
It should have been released years ago as its been sitting on my hard drive for the better part of 9 years now. There was talk at one point of it coming out on vinyl but sadly the label in question folded. Needless to say if anybody IS interested in giving this a physical release we would love to hear from you. I
We think it deserves it.
